Lee University’s baseball team pounded out 19 hits to beat visiting University of Rio Grande, 14-1, Monday afternoon. Five of the Flames’ hits went for extra bases.
The Flames (11-2) were led by Karsten Strieby and Danny Canela who each stroked three hits. Canela went 3-for-4 on the day and Strieby was 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Josh Silver tallied two safeties to go with two RBI and two runs scored. Mark Silva added two hits, including a double.
Corey Davis was 2-for-5 with a three-run triple that extended the Lee lead from two to five in the second inning.
Brandon Rader came off the bench and collected two hits. The Cleveland native blasted a two-run double and scored a run. Trevor Burgess and Cameron Brewster also legged out doubles in the win.
Mike Guinane picked up his second win of the season after surrendering three hits and an unearned run in six innings. The lefty walked one and struck out four.
David Eskew, Jeremy Bales and Ryan Zimmer each pitched an inning of no run, no hit ball to hold Rio Grande (7-5) to their lone run.
The Flames take to the road Tuesday afternoon to challenge the Bulldogs of Union College in Barbourville, Ky. The single nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
