Brandy Taylor always wanted to fix hair — as far as she can remember.

She was only five-years-old, she remembers, when she would style and blow-dry her papa’s hair while he was sitting on the couch watching TV and she would sit on the back of the couch with a brush and a hair dryer.

After practicing on her papa, but before studying hair styling in school, Taylor next started practicing on her Barbie dolls when she got just a little bit older.

“All my Barbie’s ultimately only had short hair,”

When she was a student at Bradley Central High School, she took some professional courses in cosmetology.

She has now been a professional hair stylist for 13 years, and just recently opened her shop on 1011 Keith St./Suite 1.

Taylor and four other trained stylists — Katrina Greene, Tonya Maples, Tiffiany Walker and Lori Wright — are available to help clients with their hair needs, from cuts and color to perms.

“We can help clients from first hair cuts to senior cuts. We also cut men’s hair,” Taylor said. “And all five of us are accepting new clients.”

Born and raised in Cleveland, Taylor finally opened up her own hair salon.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever been an owner,” she said. “I guess after doing hair for 13 years, I just wanted to fulfill my dream. I always wanted a salon of my own.”

One of the hottest styles this season is the bang, spurred largely by many actresses. But Taylor feels the next most popular “hot” bang style that will be the next hottest hairdo is the razor-cut, fringed look that features a longer, more sweeping bang just to one side and coming to more of a point.

“Plus, a razor cut gives hair a more ‘fringed’ look, as well as blending the hair better,” Taylor said. “Not every stylist offers razor cuts, but we do.”

And, she feels she also has found the perfect location — on Keith Street just south of the post office.

Taylor and all the stylists at N Style Salon are expert colorists and are very experienced in all haircuts.

“We all do highlights, low lights, and corrective coloring,” she said. She also offers a new choice in coloring that has most recently become popular. It is called ombre hair coloring, which takes a person’s hair from dark to light shades, brown to red shades, or light to dark shades, and just about everything else in between.

N Style Salon also carries variety of hair products, from such manufacturers as Kenra, Big Sexy, and Paul Mitchell, etc., Taylor said.

The salon also offers facial waxing.

“We hope to be getting a nail technician soon,” Taylor said. The shop will then offer pedicures, manicures and acrylic nails. The nail tech Taylor plans to hire also will be able to offer shellac nail polish, which is like regular nail polish but it stays on — without chipping — for two to three weeks at a time.

“It’s a great atmosphere,” she said. “Everybody’s so professional. They do such great work. And we stay up on the styles.”

“We will be going to hair shows all the time,” Taylor said.

Next month, there is a hair salon show coming up in Nashville, and later this year, there is another in Birmingham, Ala.

“We are excited about staying up-to-date and learning new techniques,” she said.
