Cleveland Christian traveled to Sale Creek for high school hoops on Thursday night. In the opener, the Sale Creek Lady Panthers junior varsity took the early lead and never let up, eventually defeating the Lady Crusaders 57-31.
The Sale Creek girls were shorthanded in the contest and worked hard for every one of their 57 points.
Carrie Claypoole had a big night for the Lady Crusaders with 14 points. Other team contributors were Acacia Thompson with eight points, Jennifer Corbitt with seven points and Abigail Wooden with two points and five steals.
In the boys’ game, the Crusaders played what Coach Larry Davis called "their best game of the year," defeating Sale Creek JV 67-62.
"They played as a team and gave 110 percent."
Xavier Jordan had his seventh double-double of the season and finished with 25 points. Chris Reynolds had a season-high 26 points. Helping the team effort was Bo Martin with six points, and Matthew Chambless with seven points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. Matthew Mathis also added four points, two assists and four steals, while Briar Lowe had one point and seven rebounds.
The Crusaders return to SCAA conference action Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. against Maryville Apostolic in Maryville.
