CMS opens with volleyball win over Chilhowee Middle

The Cleveland Middle School Lady Raiders may be without all their players as basketball season finishes up, but they are proving their depth with a big win over Chilhowee, Tuesday in sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball action.

The sixth-graders brought home their first win of the season with scores of 25-14 in both sets. Sixth-grader Sydni Geren contributed 10 aces from the service line along with two kills.

The seventh-grade team also had a solid performance winning in two sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-11. Aly Grace Lemons led the team with six aces and six assists, and she was followed by Krisinda Clark and Sophia Lakatosh each with four aces. Julia Ledford had three kills and Courtney Hamilton had six digs.

The varsity players pulled out the final win of the night with scores of 25-19 and 25-18. Katie Swafford led the team in aces with four and had four digs. Sammie Kate Eason contributed 10 assists. Morgan Moffett had two kills and six digs.

The seventh- and eighth-grade teams are now 2-0 and the sixth grade is 1-1. The girls will travel to Girls Preparatory School to face the Bruisers Thursday.
