Gertrude Harris Delaney, known to most as “Trudy”, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving husband and daughters by her side to await the second-coming of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.

She was born on Feb, 16, 1931, to Charles Doyle Harris and Mary Isabella Maddux Harris who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a dear niece, LuAnn Harris.

She is survived by her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. Trudy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Paul Delaney, as well as two daughters: Beverly Crigger (late Terry) and Debbie Evans (Johnny), both of Cleveland. She will also be cheerfully remembered by four granddaughters: Amy Jackson (Shane) of Knoxville, Jenny Smith (Kenny) of Ooltewah, Molly North (Jon) of Cleveland, Michael Evans, Melissa Evans Brown, and Mikayla Evans also from Cleveland. She was the proud great-grandmother to Delaney, Charlie, and Carson Jackson, Isaac and Maggie Smith and Jack North. She dearly loved and is survived by her only brother, Phillip Harris, and wife Sarah, as well as Paul’s only brother, Howard Delaney and wife, Virginia, of Ringgold, Ga.

She was a lifelong Christian and living example to her family, church, and many friends. She was a dedicated member of Bowman Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church all of her adult life and served many years as a deaconess, as well as serving on the church flower committee.

She attended Charleston High School and graduated from Bradley Central High School. She worked at American National Bank in Chattanooga, and Hamilton National Bank in Rossville, Ga., and was employed as a secretary for Bishop Baking Company, Preston Printing Company, and Hospital Publications, Inc.

Having had a love for students and teachers, she was led to spend many years in classrooms as a substitute teacher. She was an especially proud advocate of Charleston Elementary where she once attended high school and where her daughter teaches, as well as Lake Forest Middle School, where students referred to her as “Ms. Trudy”.

The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Bowman Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastors Steve Haley and Dwight Herod officiating.

Interment will follow in Calhoun First Baptist Cemetery in Calhoun.

Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Jackson, Kenny Smith, Jon North, Craig Delaney, Gary Bean, and Jimmy Logan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Hopson and David Hopson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and also from 2 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
