It’s all part of a new, minimally invasive treatment that will soon be available exclusively at the Skin Cancer and Dermatology Center in Cleveland.
There is no cutting, little or no scarring, and, most important — cure rates are very high with early detection and treatment.
The treatment is provided in the physician’s office, takes about 15 minutes and the cost could be covered in whole or part by your insurance company.
“There is no one single treatment option for all skin cancers,” notes Kelley Finnell, vice president, operations, The Skin Cancer and Dermatology Center.
“Some cancers, such as a nonmelanoma cancer, can be treated with or without surgery, while others do require a surgical procedure.
“We don’t favor any treatment option, we simply recommend the option that is most likely to achieve the best result for the patient. This is very different than being given just one choice which happens to be the specialty of that particular clinic.”
The clinic’s new treatment option for nonmelanoma cancers is performed with a Sensus SRT-100, a breakthrough technology for the treatment of the two most common forms of nonmelanoma skin cancer: basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer.
It delivers a low-energy radiotherapy that has been used for more than 50 years to treat nonmelanoma cancers, goes no deeper than the thickness of the skin and eliminates the need for reconstructive surgery of the treated area.
The clinic is accepting bookings now for the treatment, which will be available in the Cleveland clinic in early February.
Two other Skin Cancer and Dermatology locations (Dalton and Rome, Ga.), will also offer this treatment option in early February.
A nonmelanoma skin cancer typically appears on an area of your skin that is exposed to the sun. About three-quarters of non-melanoma skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas and the balance (25 percent) are squamous cell carcinomas.
The Skin Cancer and Dermatology Center offers a complete range of medical and cosmetic dermatology services.
