Morgan James Mitchell, 74, a resident of Chatsworth, Ga., and a former resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in a Chattanooga hospital.

He was a member of Cohutta Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was a deacon. He loved gardening. He had served in the National Guard.

He was the son of the late I.C. Mitchell and Maggie Thomas Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank Mitchell; and two sisters: Ruth Austin and Pauline Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Mitchell of Chatsworth, Ga.; four children: James Mitchell and Billy Joe Mitchell, both of Chatsworth, Patty Chavez and husband, Oscar, of Cohutta, Ga., and Beth Gomez and husband, Adrian, of Chatsworth; grandchildren: Roger Poff, Jacob Mitchell, Caleb Mitchell, Heather Crisp, Kimmie Miller and Ashley Lloyd; great-grandchildren: Madison and Sophia Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Reid of Cohutta Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating.

Willie Austin, nephew, will bring the eulogy.

Interment will follow in Cohulla Baptist Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.

His family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
