It was the word “espionage” that clinched the trophy for Rogers, who also won first place in last year’s competition.
“I’m going to put the trophies on a shelf,” said Rogers, a former Dade County, Ga., clerk.
The second-place trophy was awarded to Lucy Railey from Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Cleveland. Arlene Stansberry, from Consulate Health Care in Chattanooga, won third place.
Twelve contestants participated this year, representing several nursing homes throughout the Tennessee Valley. Spellers’ efforts were met with applause from an audience of fellow residents, facility caregivers and corporate associates.
