A status or plea hearing is set for Monday in Bradley County Criminal Court in the death of a woman whose body was found wrapped inside a rug.

David Keith Daugherty was charged in the July 2011 murder of Elizabeth Annette Carney. He was charged with first-degree murder.

Carney had reportedly been strangled to death, according to reports from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were notified Carney had been missing several days. They were enroute to her 6th Street residence when they were notified family members had found her body in a closet.

Daugherty was established as a suspect. Officials in Cherokee, N.C., found him when he reportedly attacked a woman at a motel.

He allegedly posed as a motel employee.

Cherokee investigators found Daugherty’s Mercury Villager van crashed near the motel.

Daugherty was arrested but not charged in North Carolina. He was extradited to Tennessee and has remained in custody at the Bradley County Jail.

- Also in Bradley County Criminal Court this upcoming week are status updates on Aaron Lawson, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Eddie and Debbie Phillips.

The double homicide occurred at the Phillips home on Leatha Lane in April 2011.

- Avery James Ladd Jr., 31, was arrested after allegedly beating Timothy Doyle at the Waffle House located at 2680 Georgetown Road.

Ladd was charged with attempted second-degree murder after the New Year’s Day incident, according to reports.

He was originally charged with aggravated assault but charges were upgraded as the investigation continued.
