Trousdale School is in Bradley County, but some of its students work in areas outside the county.

Two of these Trousdale students, Anthony Crompton and Kevin Kinser, work full time and are part-time students at the school.

Both work at grocery stores. Kinser works at the Publix in Ooltewah. Crompton works at BI-LO in St. Elmo. Kinser’s Publix career began when he lived in Florida and has continued since his move to Tennessee. Kinser said he bags groceries and help the customers. Now, he mostly works the day shift. Crompton has been with BI-LO for about five years. He said he enjoys his job and likes the people he works with. Crompton said he gets a lot of tips at work, and once someone gave him a cake as a tip.

In his free time, Kinser enjoys sports such as football, soccer and softball.

Athletics is also one of Crompton’s favorite hobbies.

In his free time, Crompton volunteers at the Y in Chattanooga. He also enjoys spending time with his family. Kinser also enjoys spending time with his family and said he is close to his niece and nephew.

The other students who work outside of Bradley County are Leslie Burnett and Amanda McCord. Both students enjoy the summers off from work. Burnett works four days a week at Ooltewah Middle School in the cafeteria. Burnett said she has worked at the school for the past 20 years.

“I like to help wash the tables,” Burnett said.

Burnett became a Trousdale student in 2006.

At the Siskin Children Institute in downtown Chattanooga, McCord works with the children and helps in the kitchen, a job she has held for the past five or six years.

“I really like to go in and see the kids. They call me ‘Miss Amanda’ and love to give me hugs,” McCord said.

McCord also started as a student at Trousdale in 2006.

While at Trousdale, Burnett and McCord also work in the snack shack.

In their free time, both women enjoy sports. Burnett said she likes to swim, while McCord said she enjoys bocce and bowling.

The favorite class of many Trousdale students is the correspondence class where they write letters to famous people. Kinser said he has written to band leader Zac Brown and to a University of North Carolina Tar Heels athlete, and received responses from both. Burnett said she has written to Alan Jackson and received a response as well. McCord said her favorite class is the fitness classes.
