John “Tom” Baker, 68, of the Lamontville community near Calhoun, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his residence.
A native of McMinnville and longtime resident of the Lamontville community, he was a son of the late Russell and Alice Townsend Baker. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Joy Baker; and three brothers: Robert Baker, Billy Baker and Leonard Baker.
He was a member of Bethel Springs Baptist Church. He was associated with the Iron Workers Local No. 704 in Chattanooga for 30 years as an ironworker.
He is survived by two sons: John Michael Baker and David Ronald Baker, both of Lamontville; six grandchildren: Derek Barham, Molly, Mandy and Megan Baker, Jon Austin Baker, and Kandice M. Baker; and two special friends: Emily Foster and Ruth Garrett.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today, May 28, 2012, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Gene Guffey officiating.
Interment will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Bethel Springs Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Derek Barham, Michael Espinoza, Timmy Hudgins, Josh Roberts, Doug Pierce and Tyler Hodgins.
