Justin D. Maples, 35, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, in the line of duty.

He was a member of The Crossing Church in Chattanooga.

He was an officer for the Cleveland Police Department for the past eight years.

He was president of the Cleveland F.O.P. and was a member of the Cleveland SWAT team. He was a fifth-degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu. He was currently attending Bethel University.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Durwood L. and Reba Maples and Charles and Delphine Krewson; one niece, Addison Gobble; and one nephew, Grant Gobble.

Survivors include his wife, Danielle Maples; sons: Jace Maples, 5, Jacobi Maples, 2 and Declan Maples, 15 months, all of Cleveland; parents, Barry and Charlene Maples of Cleveland; one sister, Brittney Gobble and husband, Kirk of Cleveland, and their son, Britton Gobble, all of Cleveland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Danny and Karen King of Cleveland; brother-in-law, Officer Nathan King and wife, Dawniel, and their children: Ethan King and Alex King, all of Cleveland; grandparents-in-law, Ronald Montgomery and Jean Montgomery of Etowah; aunts: Stephanie Pirkle and husband, Mark, of Cleveland and Donna Skouby of Kansas City, Mo.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Harris officiating.

Following the service the Cleveland Honor Guard will accompany the casket by horse drawn casson from the Bradley County Courthouse to Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials be made to a college fund for his three sons at the United Community Bank, Justin Maples Fund, 2525 Keith Street, N.W, Cleveland, TN 37311.
