BENTON — The Polk County Lady Wildcats squared off against the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs Tuesday evening for a double header of District 5-AA.

A long day was rewarded with a pair of Polk County wins, taking the first game of the series 3-2 and peppering Sequoyah in the second game 15-1.

The girls broke out the big bats in the second game of the evening when they shelled the Lady Chiefs for 15 runs over five innings to cruise to the win.

Lilly Cuzzort grabbed three RBIs in the top of the first with a huge home run. Jordan Triplett added a run on a sacrifice and Sydney Rogers capped scoring with an RBI single. That gave the Lady Wildcats a commanding 5-0 lead before the first even ended.

It was another big inning in the third when Lydia Triplett notched a three-RBI double and was later brought home when Sydney Sloan reached on an error.

The onslaught continued in the fourth when Lydia busted out another three RBIs with another big double. Sydney Sloan added a pair with a two-RBI slam and Felecia Johnson added one last run on an RBI double to give Polk a 15-1 lead that Sequoyah had no hope of overcoming.

Jordan got the start in both games, going five strong in the first game and three innings in the second. She struck out a combined six batters and allowed no walks on her way to a pair of wins.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out early when Danielle Harvey led off the bottom of the first with a single. She advanced to second on a Lydia sacrifice bunt and was driven home when Sloan knocked an RBI double.

Sequoyah struck back in the top of the second, but was only able to muster up a single run before the rally faltered and fell short.

Polk tacked on one last insurance run in its half of the second when Rogers reached on an error, was advanced on a Johnson sacrifice, moved to third on Harvey’s second single and was driven home by a sac fly by Lydia.

The Lady Chiefs added one more run in the top of the third, but that’s where scoring ended as Polk notched the win.
