Roy Lee Runyon, 87, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, in a local health care facility.

He was the son of the late Rachel Wilcox Runyon and Fate Runyon. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Mary Belle Wright and Marie Gray; and his brother, Fate Runyon Jr.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in concrete finishing most of his life and he owned and operated Roy Runyon’s Concrete Finishing for more than 35 years. He loved to work in his yard and go rabbit hunting.

He was a member of Faith Memorial Church, where he was very active in volunteer work with the church, especially at Christmas time.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Janie Lee Runyon; his daughter, Shelia Jacobs and her husband, Mike, all of Cleveland; his grandsons: Cody Hicks and his wife, Camellia “Millie,” and Dustin Hicks, all of Cleveland; brothers: J.H. “John” Runyon and Jimmy Runyon, both of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, from Faith Memorial Church with Pastor David Riggs and Pastor Derek Wilson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brent Runyon, Victor Hicks, Jackie Falls, Mike Campbell, Earl Moats and Mark Lewis serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Taylor, Roy Odom, Charles Rayburn, Donnie Vaught and Shane Campbell. Military honors will be given. A dove release will conclude the services.

The body may be viewed at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
