One of the privileges of serving on the Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway board is I get to hear people brag on our Greenway. Today, I was approached by a gentleman who thanked me and told me how much he enjoyed the Greenway.

I am always humbled to take the compliments, but it was, and has always been, a team effort from a lot of individuals and groups. The Greenway board is just tasked to be an advisory group identifying ways our linear park can be improved.

Along with compliments (and the occasional complaint or two), I also get hit with many questions: How is the current progress? Where is it going next? Are there mile markers? How long is the Greenway? Will bikes always be allowed on the Greenway? What can you do about those who don’t clean up after their pets? Are you going to install more trash cans?

The most frequent question I used to get was, “When are they going to build a restroom?” Thankfully, that question was answered earlier this year.

We are at a time in the history of our Greenway when we are entering a new “chapter,” if you will. We will have four miles of uninterrupted path from Mohawk Drive (north) to Willow Street (south). More focus can be placed on enhancing and perfecting the Greenway experience.

For those of you I have spoken to, I appreciate all the input. But for those of you who have questions or ideas about the Greenway and don’t think anyone will hear you, now is your chance! Since I have been penning this column, there has not been a direct request for ideas ... so this is it! If you have a question about the future of the Greenway, or an idea about how to make it better, you are invited to send it to info@cbcgreenway.com. Anonymous suggestions are welcome, too.

We (the Greenway board) are open to any aspect of the Greenway. We are looking for funding solutions on how to extend the Greenway north and south. The board has been discussing how to implement an effective policy for events on the Greenway. Another aspect which we have discussed, but not finalized, is the most efficient way to implement distance markers. If you have a concern about extending the Greenway ... let us know. Even if you have a compliment or complaint ... now’s your chance.

The Greenway belongs to the community. We look forward to hearing about it from you.

That’s info@cbcgreenway.com.
