SpiritHorse at Black Fox, the equine-assisted therapy program provided free to mentally and physically challenged children and their families, is awarding the prize as part of its Season of Holiday Giving year-end Internet fundraising drive.
The prize will be given to the group or individual who raises the most money between now and Dec. 31.
“In just three clicks you and/or your team can be off and running,” said Steve Poteet, director of development for the tax-deductible organization.
“To make it as simple as possible we’ve partnered with Stay Classy — the premiere online fundraising solution for charitable organizations.”
In only three touches of a computer mouse participants create a unique and secure donation page where family and friends can contribute to the cause. Sharing the link on social media sites such as Facebook sends their contacts to the page, encouraging everyone to give a little so SpiritHorse may help a lot more special-needs kid.
The vacation prize was donated in honor of Daisy Styles by her son and daughter-in-law Ben and Jeanne Styles.
The 91-year-old matriarch was a pioneer of public special education in the 1950’s and author of “A Pear for the Teacher,” a memoir of her incredible experiences.
The couple is the owner and developer of the mountain retreat that offers an octagonal shaped, 1,000-square-foot meeting space with large picture-window views of the mountains and a lake, plus a 500-square-foot gathering room downstairs with a full kitchen and wrap-around deck. In addition to the main cabin, there is a separate (newly built) log cabin that sleeps eight.
“It’s a way that everyone can join in and help us get children off of the waiting list and into the next semester of therapeutic riding,” said Poteet.
“Individuals can make a one-time gift at SpiritHorseTN.org or they can create their own donation page and encourage their friends and family to help them reach their personal or group fundraising goal.”
