The program will include the music of Bob Mintzer, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, and Thelonious Monk, among others. Following intermission, a small ensemble comprised of some of Lee’s advanced jazz students, from the MUSE Chamber Music course of study, will also perform.
In February the band will travel to Nashville to record in the historic Tracking Room in the Music Row district.
The efforts of this session will result in the ensemble’s third album scheduled to be released later in 2012.
Through the years, the jazz ensemble has consistently received top honors in overall performance and soloist awards, boasting superior ratings: (Gold) at the IAJE-sponsored Jazzweek Festival at the University of Louisville, as well as members having received scholarship awards for their achievements in improvisation and performance.
The Jazz Ensemble is a full-stage band consisting of five saxophones, four trombones, five trumpets and two rhythm sections, each with a piano, guitar, bass and drum set.
The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
