Abigail Gatlin, adjunct faculty with the Cleveland City Ballet, has just completed a run of the musical “CATS” at the Cohoes Music Hall in Cohoes, N.Y.

The show was the season opener for the Cohoes Music Hall. Gatlin was cast from a spring audition in New York City, and was chosen to play the part of the saucy red cat “Bombalurina,” one of the nine featured leads in the show.

As Bombalurina, Gatlin was a featured vocalist and dancer in the song “McCavity,” which she sings with Demeter, a flirtatious cat, towards the end of the musical. Gatlin also had several vocal parts in other numbers in the show, including “The Gumbie Cat” with Demeter.

It was directed by Jacob Brent, who played the part of Mr. Mistoffolees in “Cats” on Broadway for six years.

The musical “Cats” is an Andrew Lloyd Weber creation, and is based on the book of poetry “Ole’ Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” It is the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and has won numerous awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Laurence Olivier Award.

Gatlin will be in Cleveland later in the fall teaching at the Cleveland City Ballet where she will conduct several master classes in musical theater dance and in the “Fosse Technique.”

The Cohoes Music Hall is an historic theater in Cohoes, N.Y. Having been restored a number of years back, the hall is now in its ninth season of providing exciting and quality regional theater for the Albany area. This was the theater’s first production of “Cats,” one of the world’s best loved and most enduring musicals.
