For 35 years, Paul Grayson Smith Jr., D.O., has served the people of Cleveland and Bradley County as a primary care physician.

He opened his office 35 years ago Tuesday with one employee. Today, he is joined by his son, Paul Grayson Smith III, D.O., two physician’s assistants and more than 20 employees.

Dr. Smith followed in the footsteps of his father — Paul Grayson Smith Sr., and grandfather, J.O. Smith, who were also physicians.

All the Smith doctors are graduates of Kirskvile College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Smiths’ primary care practices offers adult and pediatric medical care.

Dr. Smith said he looks at the whole person — mind, body and spirit because they are interconnected.

“You treat the person and listen to the patient,” Dr. Smith said.

“Hello. Hello.” Dr. Smith says most times as he greets his patients.

His friendly altitude has gained him the respect of his colleagues, employees and patients.

Mildred Rosser, 101, one of his patients, noted, “I cannot find enough words to express my love and appreciation for Dr. Paul Smith and the good care that he and his staff give me. Even though I am approaching my 102nd birthday in November, he always treats my illnesses aggressively, and I feel that he deserves a lot of credit for my good health at my age.”

Pastor Allan Lockerman, said,

"Paul has been the most caring Doctor that I have had in my life. He expresses concern not only physically but spiritually. I admire not only his knowledge of the physical body but also his concern for human soul.”

To help Dr. Smith celebrate his 35 years in practice, his staff plans to take him out to lunch. The office will also be celebrating with patients during t he day.

“Congratulations Dr. Smith Jr., it is a pleasure to work for you and we are all very proud of you and to work for such a respected doctor and human being,” his staff said.
