Derrick Seth Brown, 13, a resident of Old Fort, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in a local hospital.

He attended Cookson Creek Baptist Church. He attended Chilhowee Middle School, where he had completed the seventh grade.

He was always quick with a smile for anyone who was in need. He loved to fish and ride horses.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Neal Lance ;and grandmother, Dixie Gunnoe.

Survivors include his mother and her husband, Teresa and John Gunnoe of Old Fort; his father Joey Brown of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; four brothers: Nat Brown, Neal Brown, and Devin Gunnoe, all of Old Fort and Austin Gunnoe of Cleveland; grandparents: Lois Lance of Dalton, Ga., Daniel R. and Nina Brown of Tunnel Hill, Ga., Deloris Sidney Adkins of Griffinville, W. Va., and Ancil Gunnoe of Cleveland; special friend, Kallie Wilson of Old Fort; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 31, 2011, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Rymer officiating.

Interment will follow in Cookson Creek Cemetery with Nat Brown, Brandon Brown, Shawn Brown, Daniel Brown, Joey Brown and "Bubba" Hernandez serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
