Marvin William Allen, 89, of Calhoun, Ga., died Monday morning May 9, 2011, in NHC of Rossville, Ga., following an extended illness.

He was born June 28, 1921, in Polk County.

He was he son of the late Jesse and Lillie Houck Allen.

He was a member of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Cleveland and prior to his retirement was employed by Halls Furniture Store.

Survivors include his son, Roy Allen of Cookville; daughters: Marlene Maynard of Philadelphia, Tenn., and Charlene Edwards of Calhoun; brother, Jack Allen of Polk County; sisters: Dorothy Couch of Polk County, Mable McAllister and Evelene Murray, both of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 14, 2011, from the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Cleveland with the Revs. Sammy Allen and Marvin Carr officiating.

Interment will follow in Straw Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving include Brandon Ensley, Jeremy Ensley, Joseph Miller, Jason Lucas, Danny Miller, and David Edwards.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday at 10 a.m.
