David Thurman Hooper, 85, a resident of Cleveland, went to his heavenly home Friday evening, May 6, 2011, after a stay in a local health care facility.

He was a beloved father and was devoted to his wife and family.

He was a craftsman, skilled in plastering and stucco masonry. He worked on many houses, buildings, and churches in the Chattanooga and Cleveland area. He was also employed by JAFCO at the Village Shopping Center for many years until his retirement.

He enjoyed fishing and being with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of Candies Creek Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Bernola Liner and Jay Harrison Hooper. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Martha Celestine Miller Hooper; sister, Ruby Harris; brothers: William, Arthel (Red), Frank, Tom, Paul, Ray and Leonard Hooper; and granddaughter, Lori Kay Millaway.

He is survived by daughters: Connie Millaway and her husband, Roy, Alice Harris and her husband, Fritz; and sons: Dale Hooper and his wife, Sabel, Barry Hooper and his wife, Cheryl; granddaughters: Carrie Millaway, Joey Harris, Jenny Harris, Natalie Holder and husband, Cory, and Anna Caroline Hooper; grandsons; Keith Hooper, Rusty Daily, and Garrett Hooper; and great-granddaughter, Lucy Grace Holder; sisters: Marge Melton and her husband, Herman, and Dot Carson; brothers: Joe Hooper and his wife, Rose, and Wayne Hooper; and several nephews and nieces.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie Work and Chaplain Carl Caffrey officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Bradley Baptist Association for Tornado Relief Efforts.
