Jackie Westfield was hostess for the meeting. Charlotte Timberlake led the devotion followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Billie Blair, president, presided over the business session. The treasurer’s report was given by Cynthia Humes, treasurer.
Blair reminded members of meeting and club activities which included the Tree Give-Away on April 2 and the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs State Convention, April 28-30 in Memphis.
Kay Cox, Charlotte Scott, Lelia Ware and Jackie Westfield attended the District III Spring Membership Meeting at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.
After the business session and refreshments, Westfield presented an informative Program on “Designs, All About Judging.” She has taken the four required courses of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs Flower Show School on Horticulture and Design, to become a Student Flower Show Judge.
Westfield provided handouts on the Elements of Design in Arrangements, Basic Shapes, and a point scoring review sheet. She discussed the elements of design, which include space, pattern, line, light, form, color, texture and size.
The principles of design include: balance, dominance, contrast, rhythm, proportion and scale. Westfield displayed an example of three different designs for the members to critique and appraise on whether each followed Design Principles, and assign their individual scores.
Other members in attendance were Kay Cox, Sheryl Gash, Dorothy Keith, Reginia Piersaul, Charlotte Scott, Margenia McKissic and Lelia Ware.
