Eagles fly away with second win over Bears

EVENSVILLE — Bradley Central relinquished a 2-0 lead early and suffered a 10-4 loss at Rhea County in baseball action Wednesday.

The Bears opened the game with two runs in the first inning, but the lead lasted only a short while as the Golden Eagles moved ahead with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Bradley Central rallied with a run in the top of the third to tie the score at 3-3, only to see Rhea County score three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 6-3 advantage. The Eagles never trailed from that point, allowing the Bears only one additional score in the six-run decision.

The win improves Rhea County’s record to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in District 5-AAA.

Kenzie Goins was the winning pitcher and is unbeaten in three games this season. He struck out 10 Bears in going the distance. Nate Mills was charged with the loss for Bradley Central.

Caleb Pippinger had a home run to spark the Bears at the plate. The Bears had only three hits off Goins.

Brent Smith went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for Rhea County. His two hits included a double. Goins added two hits and two RBIs to aid his own cause. Skyler Everett also had two RBIs for the Eagles.
