Samford University
The following Bradley County residents have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Samford University.
The students are: Adam C. Murphy of Cleveland, a senior music major; Emily K. Johnson of Cleveland, a freshman biology major; Emily M. Jordan of Cleveland, a junior early childhood elementary and special education major; Laura N. Drury of Cleveland, a senior nursing major; and Matthew P. Bryson of Cleveland, a junior international relations and pre-law major.
To qualify for the honor, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.
Samford University is consistently ranked in the top tier of national doctoral research universities by U.S. News & World Report. Founded in 1841, it is the largest private university in Alabama with more than 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled annually.
Virginia Military Institute
The Virginia Military Institute recently released the names of cadets who made the Dean’s List for the first semester of the 2010-11 school year.
There are 524 cadets named to the Dean’s List.
Cadet Kevin C. Ponsler is a local student from Dayton who made the list. Ponsler is a sophomore majoring in psychology.
To be on the Dean’s List, a cadet must have a term GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no grade below “C.”
The Virginia Military Institute, with an enrollment of 1,500 cadets, is the nation’s oldest state-supported military college. U.S. News and World Report has ranked it among the top three public-supported liberal arts colleges in the nation for the last nine years.
