Linda Melton, has been elected to lead the Cherokee District in 2011.

Melton is a member of the Charleston Ruritan Club and has served the Cherokee District as fundraising chair, district secretary, and lieutenant governor.

The election of the new district governor came during the Cherokee District Convention at Bradley Central High School.

Also taking office in 2011 are Ruritan Lt. Governor Jim Smith, District Secretary Marilyn Williford, and District Treasurer Joyce Johnson.

Ruritan clubs have been improving communities and building a better America through fellowship, goodwill and community service. Today there are more than 1,100 clubs in 25 states across the United States. The Ruritan National Office, headquarters of Ruritan, has been located in Newbern, Va., since 1965.
