The William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund provides needy individuals in the community with a box of food staples to help brighten their Christmas.
Some 715 people registered in November to receive the baskets, according to Todd Duggan, coordinator.
Approximately $24,000 is needed to pay for the food items to be provided in the baskets. The food boxes will be given out on Saturday.
Although the fund has a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, there are no corporate or organizational sponsors. The baskets are filled strictly through the donations of local residents. Volunteers give their time and efforts to gather the food and funds to fill the annual holiday baskets.
Donations received this week include Sound of Tennessee, $1,1184; in memory of Danette Henry, $50; the McReynolds Family Foundation, Inc, $300; Tyresha Isbill, $50; Dan and Mary Winters, $100; unknown, $20; WB Keyser, $100; Max Morris, $50; in memory of Marvin Gill given by the Harry S Truman Club, $1,000; Bob and Susan Card, $150; and Mrs. Winters, $419.45.
Donations will be collected through the first of the year.
Individuals may send donations to First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 4880, Cleveland, TN 37320-48880, or drop off the donation at First Tennessee Bank on Raider Drive.
