The name was taken from the Scripture verse: “All the garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.”
I’m sure this is the only soap named from the Holy Bible. But the Word holds much more than trivia for its readers.
In the ’50s, Johnny Standley came out with a comedy routine called “It’s In the Book.” He “preached” the nursery rhyme “Little Bo Peep” and ended the parody with a hand-clappin’ song about Grandma’s Lye Soap. “It’s innnnnn the book,” he would explain in his signature drawl after every line.
Obviously, the book he referred to was not “The Book.”
However, there are many things we take for granted which are in The Book. The solution to each of life’s dilemmas is available to us in The Book, which, many times, we don’t recognize. Soap is not on the list.
But whatever the situation or the problem may be, God has an answer in His Holy Word.
When you feel discouraged, read Isaiah 51:11 and Psalm 138:7.
When worries cloud your mind, read John 14:1 and Philippian 4:19.
Lonely? Go to 1 Samuel 12:22 or Isaiah 41:10;.
Are you feeling the weight of depression? Read Isaiah 40:31 or Philippians 4:8.
When you face temptation, read Ephesians 6:10, 11 and 16.
If you are angry, remember that “... the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God” (James 1:19, 20); and Proverbs 14:29: “He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.”
Are you experiencing fear: Look to Palm 91:10, 11 and Proverbs 3:25, 26. And in Psalm 27:1 and 3, read: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear: the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”
Do you stand in need of courage? Read Psalm 27:14 and Philippians 4:13.
When the time calls for patience, read Isaiah 40:31 and see what Paul says in Galatians 5:22.
And if your heart yearns for peace, read Philippians 4:6 and 7: “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Whatever you need, “It's in the Book.”
