WVHS ranked 41st best high school in state

Walker Valley High School was recently ranked among the top 50 Tennessee high schools on the U.S. News and World Report's list of Best High Schools for 2019.
Walker Valley was recognized as the 41st best high school out of nearly 400 in Tennessee, and it was ranked 3,513 out of over 23,000 schools in the United States.
“We are thrilled with this distinction and recognize that it is a product of hard-working teachers, committed families, and driven students,” Principal Nat Akiona said. “Our desire is to continue to provide our community with a learning environment and culture that is not only challenging,  but one that demonstrates care and equips our young people for challenges beyond our doors.”
U.S. News and World Report's list includes a mix of traditional, charter and magnet schools throughout the country and includes state ranking designations.
In the Chattanooga area, only Walker Valley High School and Signal Mountain High School were schools ranked in the top 50 Tennessee high schools with student populations of more than 600. Cleveland High School also placed in the top 100, ranking at 74.
According to the U.S. News report, “Parents searching for top public schools in their area that can put their teens on the right path can turn to the 2019 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings.”
The rankings were developed in conjunction with nonprofit research firm RTI International, and “are based on revamped methodology that weighs six indicators of school quality.”
Those indicators are college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, under-served student performance, and graduation rates.
