Writer claims Islam does not promote peace

To The Editor:

Over the past several months I have read statements in the Banner reportedly made in Cleveland by Muslims that need to be confronted.

Two were by someone who apparently represented the Islamic Center in Chattanooga. He was quoted as saying that Muslim countries “have no more refugees who go wrong than any other country that go wrong.”

Has he not seen the videos of the hordes of Muslims streaming into Europe? Many of these migrants have been involved in all kinds of crime including rape, murder, mass sexual assault and terrorism. Clearly this statement was more wishful thinking than fact.

This same advocate then supposedly said Islam “is a peaceful religion,” and does not promote terrorism. We have heard this from everyone — from presidents to clerics — for decades. Oh, if only it were true.

Islam does not mean peace. It means submission to Islam. If Islam is a religion of peace, there should be clear evidence in history, theology and current behavior.

Actually, Muslim history is replete with unprovoked warfare, conquest, massacres and enslavement, including sexual slavery, forced conversion and marriage. Plus, today we live in the era of Al Qaida and ISIS.

The topic of theology can be daunting to us laymen, but even a superficial examination of the Muslim holy books reveals that Islam is not inherently peaceful. Muslims often refer to their early scriptures that seem to promote peace with “people of the book” — Christians and Jews. What they don’t mention is the principal of abrogation within their theology. Simply stated, this means that later scripture verses cancel and replace earlier verses, which is exactly what happened in this case.

Why do people make this peaceful religion claim about Islam?

One reason is ignorance. They just don’t know the truth and simply repeat what they have heard.

Then, there is political correctness. We must not offend.

Others are controlled by religious zeal and are willing to promote the Islamic agenda by any means necessary.

The bottom line is that this religion of peace claim is a ridiculous lie and an insult to our intelligence and common sense; plus, [there’s also] the countless victims of Islam over the centuries.
