Love Nancy was created by Catherine Patten in remembrance of her mother, Nancy, who passed away in 2008 of Alzheimer's. The name originated as a team name when many who supported Nancy participated in the Patten family's first Memory Walk.

The group began raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association through an event called "Wine for the Mind,"  which is being planned  for Friday, Oct. 20, at the Coffee Barn.

"It became a nonprofit in 2013 after our first  pajama drive, 'Pajamas for your Mama,' and Love Nancy provides support to caregivers and and their loved ones with Alzheimer's, progressive  memory impairment and special needs," Patten said.

Love Nancy also supports Fun with Friends, which provides support for young adults with special needs.

"The whole thing began with pajamas. (My) mom loved pajamas and you know, pajamas are just a comfort," Patten said.  "I thought we would just be delivering pajamas and having pajama drives, and it has grown into much more than that."

To grow, Love Nancy has had to seek funds for the program, which has led to the "Wine for the Mind."

"'Wine for the Mind' will be  Oct. 20, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Coffee Barn," Catherine Patten said. "We will have music by Randy Steele and friends, heavy hors d'oeuvers, drinks,  and a live and silent auction."

Tickets for the event are $40 for individuals and $70 for a couple.

Tickets need to be reserved, and can be done  by emailing Cathering Patten at cpatten@lovenancy or visiting the website at lovenancy.org.
