With power and consistency on the links, Cleveland golfer David Watts came away with a one-stroke victory in the Chattanooga Men's Metro Amateur tournament Sunday at Moccasin Bend Golf Club.

On the Par 72 course Watts shot a pair of 66s on the first two days and closed out the championship with a 69 to finish at 15-under 201. The thrill of victory came a year after finishing two strokes off the lead.

Watts was tied for first place in the State Amateur last season on the final day, and went on to a 10th-place finish.

This season the State Amateur will be held Aug. 7-10 at Spring Creek Ranch in Collierville (Memphis Area).

Bradley County was well represented in general with its champion being followed closely by Matt Crowder and Cody Godfrey, who finished in third and fifth place, respectively.

Crowder shot a pair of 67s and a 70 on Sunday to finish three strokes off the lead at a 12-under 204.

Meanwhile, Godfrey started with 69s and saved his best for last with a 67 for a 11-under 205.

Local golf legend Joe Markham came in 12th place in the Metro Amateur with a 8-under 208. He shot 1-over on Friday before strong rounds of 67 and 68.

Upcoming Tennessee Tech freshman golfer and Walker Valley graduate Parker Gray finished 15th overall at 7-under 209.
