Victor Maurice Hill
Victor Maurice Hill, 32, born in Cleveland, transitioned this life on earth on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017.
From birth, Victor attended his home church, Church of God, Sanctified, in Cleveland, under the pastorship of his uncle, Bishop Dr. G.R. Hill. He was active in the church as a member of the music ministry team playing the alto and soprano saxophones and the drums, as well as serving as an usher. He was a 2004 graduate of Cleveland High School, where he served as vice president of the student body in his junior year and president his senior year.
He excelled in his education, receiving many academic awards, including the 100 Black Men of Bradley County Scholarship and the Ratterman-Shell Memorial Scholarship. In his senior year, he was selected to attend Boys’ State in Cookeville, and Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C. He went on to pursue his post-secondary education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he majored in political science.
He was employed at Duracell and Staff Management, both in Cleveland, for a few years. While attending Vanderbilt, he worked in the Alumni Department during the school year.
He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Dora Bowles; grandmother, Mother Clothilda A. Ferguson; an uncle, Howard Dale Ferguson; and an aunt, Dora Hill-Gash.
He was intelligent and talented, and loved by many. He was a joy and an inspiration to his family and friends. He was very much of a people person, and his smile and sense of humor were effortless. He passionately enjoyed playing the saxophone. The highlight of his musical career was the professional recording of his instrumental single “Amazing Grace” in Nashville.
His family left to commemorate his life: his parents, James Eric and Norma Hill of Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Christopher K. Ferrell of Atlanta; grandparents, Bishop G.C. and Mrs. Louella Hill of Cleveland; Bishop Cephas and Mrs. Anna Mae Ferguson of Nassau, Bahamas; aunts and uncles: Elsie Walters, Cecilia Dunn (Pastor Rodney Dunn) and Tanya Hill of Cleveland, Dr. Barbara Hall (Bishop Joseph Hall) of Freeport, Grand Bahamas, Doris Jones (Waymond) of Houston, Texas, Gloria Knowles (Carl), Rosetta Burrows of Nassau, Bahamas, Eleanor Williams (Bishop Patterson Williams) of Freeport, Grand Bahamas, Bishop Dr. G.R.
