VEC 'Share' program gets local praise

To The Editor:

I want to give a shout-out and a big thank-you to Volunteer Energy Cooperative.

Because of the Customer Share Program at VEC, we at New Life Community Kitchen have received a much-needed grant to purchase food for the homeless and low-income folks in our area.

We are a nonprofit organization at New Life Bible Church at 155 South Ocoee St., in downtown Cleveland. Currently, we serve between 45 and 70 people each day five days a week. The kitchen operates solely on donations, whether monetary or food.

We appreciate all the help we receive from everyone in Bradley County and surrounding counties. Without your help this work could not be done.

I would like to encourage all VEC customers to become a partner in the Customer Share Program. This program awards grants to  qualifying nonprofit organizations in each county VEC serves.

Contact VEC and let them know you want to be part of this worthwhile program. They simply round your bill up to the nearest dollar. As an example, if your bill is $169.85, it would go to $170. The extra goes into the grant fund to be distributed on a monthly basis.

Thanks again for everyone's help in feeding those in need and a big "thank you" to Volunteer  Energy Cooperative for creating an avenue for your customers to share in this blessing.
