Bradley County Schools officials have announced all schools will operate on a two-hour delay when students return from Christmas break on Thursday.
Two-hour delays will be in effect both Thursday and Friday of this week. Director of Schools Dr. Linda Cash has cited "extremely cold temperatures" as the reason behind the delays.
"These two hours allow the sun to come up and for the buses to get warm for the students," said Cash. "When it's that cold, we like to make sure all our students are as comfortable as possible."
This announcement came during a week which has seen many days with below-freezing temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, Thursday is expected to see a high of 27 degrees, and Friday will see a high of 30 degrees.
The other local school system, Cleveland City Schools, will not start back until Monday. No schedule changes have been announced thus far.
