The Tennessee Flash women’s basketball teams fared extremely well at the Tennessee Senior Olympic Games, which were held in Franklin recently.

The Tennessee Flash 55s brought a gold medal home as they beat the Tri-Cities Sharp Shooters.

Members of the team included: Cathy Canup, Marsella Womac, Vickie Haile, Dianne Fetzer, Missy Murphy, Sharon Gallaher, Darlene Goins, Janet Newport, and Deb Hart, along with head coach Mary Tim Burgin.

Earlier in the month at the National Senior Games the same group of ladies earned a No. 5 national ranking.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Flash 50s earned a silver medal at the Senior Olympic Games.

The No. 7 team in the national rankings is comprised of: Suteka Brice, Janet Owenby, Marj Alford, Lori Tipton, Regina Lewis and Kay Prugh.

Eight different members of the Flash were individual state medalists in Franklin.

Gold medal winners were Alford, Hart and Gallaher in the free throw competition. Ownby won gold in the hot shot competition while Lewis and Fetzer brought home gold in the 3-point contest.

Silver medal winners included: Tipton (free throw), Fetzer (free throw), Hart (hot shot), Goins (hot shot), Ownby (3-point), Hart (3-point).

Bronzes were awarded to Tipton, Lewis, Fetzer in the hot shot and Tipton in the 3-point contest.

Meanwhile at the Tennessee Senior Olympic Games, Gallaher also was a gold medalist in both the singles and mixed doubles racquetball competition.

The Tennessee Flash teams begin their new season with practices starting Aug. 1. District competition begins in September.
