Aldersgate Garden Club earns awards at convention

Seven Aldersgate Garden Club members attended the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs Inc., 91st Annual Meeting and Convention from June 18-20, at The Westin Chattanooga.
Those in attendance were Edwina Robinson, president; Charlotte Scott, vice president; and Billie Blair, Kay Cox, Charlotte Timberlake, Cynthia Humes and Lelia Johnson.

Among the more than 165 fellow gardeners in attendance were Ann McCormick, 2017-2019 Deep South Garden Clubs director; Cindy Hintz, 2017-2019 TFGC president; and Pamela Dowd, 2015-2017 TFGC president.
The theme for the Convention was “Climb Every Mountain,” which was witnessed and enjoyed in every aspect throughout the convention. Business meetings, workshops, awards and a tour of the McCoy Farms and Garden and lunch on Signal Mountain were conducted throughout the two-day convention. The convention was hosted by the 12 clubs in District III. It was dedicated to TFGC President Cindy Hintz, who is also a rock climber.

TFGC, Deep South Garden Clubs, National Garden Clubs and Youth Awards were presented to the Aldersgate Garden Club in the following Categories: TFGC – Publicity Press Book – Club Award – first place; Civic Achievement – Club Award – fourth place; Parks – Club Award – first place; Scrapbook – Club Award – first place; (5) National Garden Week – Club Award – first place.

Deep South Garden Clubs Award – Adopt-a-Spot – Club Award – third place.

National Garden Clubs Award – Community Gardens – Club Award – first place; and National Garden Week – Club Award – first place.

Individual Club member awards – Litter Control (TFGC) – Charlotte Scott – first place; Deep South — second place; Environmental Education (TFGC) – Charlotte Timberlake – first place; Deep South – third place; Horticulture (TFGC) – Charlotte Scott – second place; Horticulture (TFGC) – Charlotte Timberlake – first place; Deep South – second place; National Garden Clubs – first place; Club Program (TFGC) – Jacqueline Westfield – third place; (6) Club Program (TFGC) – Cynthia Humes (TFGC) – first place.

Youth Awards – NGC Poetry Contest - Keegan Smartt, first grade – first place.

NGC Poster Contest – Woodsy Owl Poster Contest – Aniyah Purifory, fifth grade – first place certificate plus $25; Deep South Garden Clubs – first place certificate plus $25.

All clubs in good standing are eligible to submit Books of Evidence according to the TFGC Rules and Deadline Date in the prospective category.
The Aldersgate Garden Club is a supportive member of TFGC, District III, Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and the National Garden Clubs Inc.
