Tennie Dispain


Tennie Dispain, 92, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home of 65 years.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Susie Moore Green.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph F. Dispain; the father of her children, Leonard Taylor; and her granddaughter, Cayci Higgins. In addition, she was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Green and sister-in-law, Margaret Green; sisters: Nellie Holder, Scharlene Ellis and Sarah Phillips; and son-in-law, Roy Higgins.

Tennie was a former employee with Jim Rush Funeral Homes. She also worked with the Bradley County Board of Education and the Bradley County Health Department. She was co-owner of T and D Moving and Taylors Auction.

When her children were young and in school, she was very active in the Parent Teachers Association. She became president of the local PTA and also worked with the PTA on the state level.

Tennie loved to cook for family gatherings, play card games and play board games. She also loved to crochet and sew. She enjoyed listening to country music and gospel music.

She had many accomplishments, but being a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother was the most important.

She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God.

She is survived by her son, Michael Taylor and his wife, Barbara; her daughters: Phyllis Taylor, Sherri Hartgraves and Becky Higgins. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Tyler Swafford and his wife, Trina, Michael Hartgraves and his wife, Christina, Nathan Hartgraves and his wife, Karly, Clayton Taylor and his wife, Erica, Kristi Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Steven Higgins and his wife, Amy, Kelly Jackson and her husband, Mark, and Kimberly Williams and her husband, Jeremy. Surviving great-grandchildren include: Christian Swafford, McCay Hartgraves, Emme Swafford, Austin Buckner, Lily Williams, Ayla Childs, Jonathan Taylor, Zoe Hartgraves, Hannah Swafford, Davis Hartgraves, Sam Williams, William Hartgraves, Eli Williams, Creed Hartgraves, Alina Hartgraves, Janelle Taylor, Judson Williams, Asia d’Aquarone and Andrea Buckner. Also surviving are two special nieces: Marquetta Turner and Susie Ruth, along with several nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to her loving caregivers, Sheila Evans and Rhonda Cisco.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be held Thursday, March 8, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Avenue Chapel with Nathan Hartgraves officiating.  The interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery with Jeremy Williams officiating.  Pallbearers will be Tyler Swafford, Michael Hartgraves, Nathan Hartgraves, Clayton Taylor, Jeremy Williams and Eric Greene.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kristi Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Bob Coleman, Danny Scoggins, Bobby Hutton and Rodney Hartgraves.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
