Tennessee Christian Preparatory School has two high school basketball teams that have advanced to the Final Four of the SCAA Conference Basketball Tournament in Rossville, Ga., this week. After enduring a few weather delays, the North Division of the SCAA was able to complete the final round of tournament play on Saturday in Maryville.
Entering the final round, the No. 1-ranked TCPS Lady Hawks were pitted against Knoxville Christian. Both teams needed a win to advance. When the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Hawks had come away with a decisive 71-52 victory.
The Lady Hawks now move on to the SCAA Conference Final Four having won the North Division outright and finishing the season with only one loss in conference play. The SCAA Conference semifinal game for the Lady Hawks will take place today at 4 p.m. at the Rossville Athletic Center against Oakwood Christian Academy.
The TCPS Hawks boys basketball team entered North Division Tournament play ranked third and needing to win two games against tough competition to advance to the conference Final Four.
The Hawks did not disappoint. After a win in the first round for TCPS, rival Knoxville Christian was the opponent in the final round of play. The Hawks, needing a win to advance to the conference tournament, had fallen two times to Knox Christian in the regular season.
At the end of the first period, the Hawks had a nine-point advantage and did not look back. The TCPS boys took its own double-digit victory, beating Knox Christian 63-52.
The win vaulted the Hawks from third to a ranking of second and placing them squarely in the SCAA Conference Final Four.
The Hawks will play Rhea County Academy in the conference semifinal game tonight at 8:30, also at the Rossville Athletic Center, located at 301 Williams St., Rossville, Ga.
The championship games will take place on Thursday in Rossville at 6 p.m. for the girls, and at 7:30 for the boys.
