The Tennessee Christian Preparatory School volleyball team closed their 2018 campaign in the TAPSA Conference Championship this week, dropping a hard-fought match with Apostolic Christian Academy.

TCPS landed in the championship match following a hotly contested win in the semifinals over Maryville Christian School.

After dropping the opening set, 30-28, the Lady Hawks responded with wins of 25-23 and 18-16 to earn the upset over the second-seeded MCS club.

The Lady Hawks were led by senior outside hitter Abby Chase, who was named to the TAPSA All-Conference Team.

Fellow seniors setter Sarah Knipp and middle blocker Hannah Armao were joined by junior outside hitter Raylee Evans on the All-Tournament Team.

“The year was really a roller coaster for the girls,” said first-year head coach Ashley Green. “There were times that we struggled to finish games when we had good leads, but when it mattered, especially in the semifinals, they fought and didn’t give up.”

TCPS closes the year with an overall record of 11-12, 5-5 in their first year of TAPSA Conference play.

The club graduates three of its top four players and will look to rebuild and develop for its second year in the new league.

“I am really proud of what we overcame this year,” added Green. “Several girls were new to volleyball, with a new head coach and a new league, to end by competing for a conference title makes me extremely proud.”
