I am writing because enough is enough!
The state of our nation, our culture, our community, our personal emotional health are each and all devastated by the tribalism, polarization and everything that goes with being “star-bellied sneetches,” as referenced in the Seuss book.
I want to believe that the things that unite us are stronger than the things that divide us. Sadly, we have become so incredibly tribal that we cannot even gather to discover our “common unity” (community). We have passed the point where casting blame, pointing fingers, recalling past mistakes or retreating to our corners makes any sense.
This “Bible thumping,” and what I believe is a “Bible believing” community (region), knows full well what is required to turn this nation into something we can call great again. We sing it in choirs all across this region …. 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
There is none righteous in this plight … not one. And as King David prayed, so should we, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in the way ever lasting.” Psalm 139:23-24
As friends, neighbors, people who live/work and go to church, school and play together … we must lay aside all labels and tribalism. Regardless of what motivates each of us in our lives, I can’t believe that as a whole we want to be a part of something that is so ungodly, inhumane and cruel as separating children from parents.
God has made of one blood all peoples of the earth … who among us can honestly say that this practice is bringing glory to God or His Son Jesus Christ?
It really does not matter at this point who started the mess … who perpetuated the mess! We, as people who claim to be decent, God-fearing, loving people, must be the ones to stop it.
Whether you still bear the label of Republican, Democrat or Independent … I beg all to call and demand that this Congress stop all the foolish diatribe and polarizing practices and do the right and Godly thing. And, as for the rest of us … we desperately need to stop singing 2 Chronicles 7:14, and start putting some tangible, practical actions toward letting God be God … and cease all our "peopleness" (where we try to be God).
