The Democratic Women’s Club awarded local attorney Sally Love with its Women Who Make a Difference™ award.

Love has practiced law in our community from 1979 to the present. “I value my legal education, and have enjoyed helping people in need of family law services,” she said. Following her undergraduate degree, Love began her career as a teacher before deciding to return to school for a law degree.

She added, “Now, I’m looking forward to the next phase of my life,” which includes currently teaching business law classes at Lee University.

Love also holds an elected position on the executive committee of the Tennessee Democratic Party as a delegate from the state’s ninth senate district. “We are the decision-making apparatus for the Democratic party. I serve on the budget and bylaws committees,” she said.

When asked about her decision to be a politically active Democrat, Love said, “[When I was growing up in Polk County] we always kept up with the news — both local and national. My dad went to school on the GI Bill. My family had electricity and jobs thanks to the TVA. My parents’ first home loan was through the VA.

These are all Democratic programs that directly helped my family. Plus, I can still hear my mother saying (during integration years), ‘You be nice to everybody.’” Love said those were the lessons she learned as a child, and the principles of being a Democrat.

Love concluded by quoting Voltaire, who wrote “We must cultivate our garden” to make a difference.

The Democratic Women’s club created the Women Who Make a Difference Award to recognize, celebrate and thank women who work and serve the needs of all citizens. The honorees are chosen based solely on their commitment and service to our area.
