Cleveland Mayor Emeritus Tom Rowland was appointed to the Cleveland Municipal Airport Authority by the Cleveland City Council on Monday, replacing current board member Lynn DeVault who has resigned.
DeVault was first appointed to the local Airport Authority in 2004, serving three times as chairperson.
He will finish out DeVault’s term, which ends next month.
Rowland, who served as Cleveland mayor from 1991 to 2018, was an early proponent of the jetport, stating that it would bring more business to the area.
However, his dream took some convincing before it became a reality.
"The general aviation airport was probably one of my top dreams," Rowland told the Banner last year. "We desperately needed it, and it was hard to convince the public how important it was for industrial development."
The airport opened in 2013 and is one of Rowland’s proudest achievements.
During her membership on the board, DeVault also helped lead the effort to establish the jetport.
She is the president of Jones Management Services LLC, serving in that role since 2000.
The airport has a 6,200-foot runway, as well as an 8,000 square foot terminal, located on 251 Dry Valley Road, N.E.
