Rain douses Cleveland Thursday morning

Torrential rains doused the Cleveland area Thursday morning, resulting in flash flooding in some areas of the Cleveland.

The rains, which began around 7 a.m., are expected to continue the remainder of the week. Weather forecasters have predicted a  60% chance of rain today and Saturday.

Thursday's downpour flooded portions of 25th Street between Exit 25 and Keith Street, temporarily shutting down the right-hand lane from where Wendy’s restaurant is located to the front of Westmore Church of God.

Rainwater covering Little Street N.W., located between Burger King and the Economy Inn, thwarted the attempt of a driver to travel along the road, resulting in stalling the engine of the vehicle. The vehicle was eventually pushed to a parking lot by some passersby.

Curtis Cline, of the Cleveland-Bradley County Emergency Management Agency, said while the agency did not respond to any specific emergency situations, he was aware of several vehicle accidents that took place Thursday.

In addition, Adam Lewis, public information officer for the Bradley County Sheriff's Department, said there were some reports of vehicle accidents, but nothing of significance, despite the hazardous weather conditions.

"It was really dicey for a while," Lewis said.

Cleveland Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Evie West said there  were no reports of vehicle accidents  resulting from the storm.
