Polk sheriff seeks suspect in shooting

The search continues today for a suspect in a fatal shooting late Wednesday  night in Polk County, which resulted in the death of a man in his 20s.

Sheriff Steve Ross reports that a call came into the 911 Center just before midnight Wednesday from a man who said he and his friend had both been shot in a home located at 9384 U.S. Highway 411 , in Delano

The caller said his friend had been shot in the head. Both men in their 20s were airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where one was pronounced dead.

The two men were reportedly visiting a third man at the home, when another uninvited person arrived. An apparent argument led to the shooting.

The caller said the shooter had broken into the home.

Responding to the incident, Ross said, "A situation like this is never comforting. We've got two families that are now destroyed. Despite who the suspect is, the family is destroyed. It's a no-win situation, and it's tough."

Ross and his criminal investigation team continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The wounded man, as well as the third person at the home, were being questioned by Ross' investigative team.

As of press time Friday, the names of the two shooting victims continued to be withheld.
