Pansy Sharlene Nelson, 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017. 

She was the daughter of the late Francis Columbus and Isabelle Bach Mooney; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Nelson Sr.; her son, Francis Van Nelson; and her brother, Eugene Mooney.

Mrs. Nelson was a self-employed fundraiser with philanthropic endeavors throughout the Southeast.  She raised money for the Lions Club, Shriners Club and several Chambers of Commerce.  She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Hendersonville, N.C., and was a very active member of the Westmore Church of God.  However her main job, and the most rewarding, was raising her six children.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph A. Nelson Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Cleveland, Ga., Danny R. Nelson and his wife, Nevil, and Benjamin D. Nelson and his wife, Pamela, all of Cleveland; her daughters, Susan Nelson Pugh and her husband, Tony, of Mt. Juliet, Rebecca V. Whitehead of Knoxville, and Regina V. Nelson of Nashville; her grandchildren, Eric D. Nelson and his wife, Ruth, Mathew Nelson and his wife, Amber, Sarah Shepherd, Reid Nelson, David Whitehead and his wife, Laura, Lance Whitehead and his wife, Lauren, Megan Whitehead, Venecia O’Bannon, Amanda Nelson Troyer and her husband David, Sgt. Hugh Thomas W. Farr, Monica Farr, Mark Farr and Olivia Farr; her great-grandchildren, Luke Nelson, Cana Nelson, Jacob Anderson, Adeline Whitehead, Anica Trento, Carlos Jackson and Mason Bashara; her brother, Paul D. Mooney; sisters, Flora E. Taylor, Linda S. Curry and Mary L. Mooney; along with several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 12 o’clock Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Westmore Church of God with Pastor Kelvin Page, and Pastor Phillip Mooney officiating. 

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Eric Nelson, Mathew Nelson, David Whitehead, Lance Whitehead, Reid Nelson, Jacob Anderson, Sgt. Hugh Thomas W. Farr, Mark Farr and David Troyer serving as casket bearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Earls and Derrick Taylor. 

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel.
