The Ocoee Middle School archery team recently won First Place in the annual Van Buren Archery Tournament, held in Spencer, the Van Buren County seat. Spencer is named after Thomas Sharp Spencer (d. 1794), a long-bow hunter who passed through that area in the mid-18th century. OMS archers taking home medals were, JimBo Canida, second place, Caleb Tunstra, third place, and Laisia Novene, second-place female. Up next for the team is the annual $100 shootoff, to be hosted by OMS on Feb 9. Prizes will be available for the top three male and female archers in three categories: Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. Additionally, there will be $100 cash shootout open to all registered archers competing that day. That shootout will take place at the end of the tournament, while scores are being tallied. For more details about signing up, contact coach Darryl Canida at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 423-478-8800.
