BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Lee University track and field teams began the indoor seasons Friday at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker. Birmingham-Southern College hosted the event at the Birmingham CrossPlex and included several teams from the NAIA and all three divisions of the NCAA.

Christian Noble was one of four Lee record-setting perfomers. He completed the 3,000-meter run in 8:10.21. Noble not only set a new standard for Lee, but also set a new meet record.

The previous Lee standard of 8:23.56 was set by Mike Walker in 2013. Noble’s time also met the provisional qualifying mark (8:22.64) for the NCAA Championships. The automatic qualifying time is 8:03.95.

Charlee Boxall knocked eight seconds off her school record in the 3,000-meter run crossing the finish line at 10:02.36. She had set the previous mark of 10:10.59 at the Samford Open last February. Boxall was a little over four seconds away from the provisional qualifying time of 9:58.07.

Avery Truelove improved her Lee record in the triple jump from 10.72 meters to 11.16 meters. The 10.72-meter distance was set at the JDL DMR Invitational on February 16, 2019. Truelove finished 11th in the triple jump and was 32nd with a long jump of 4.73 meters.

Daniel Surman tied his record-setting performance at the Queens University Combined Events in February with a pole vault of 4.45 meters. He won the event on Friday. Eli Brooks was eighth with a vault of 3.85 meters. Surman also finished 47th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.88.

Joining Noble in the 3,000-meter run were Caleb Eagleson, Casey Guthery, Silas Eckenroad and Ezekiel Harless. Eagleson was fourth (8:43.94) and Guthery finished seventh (8:50.12). Eckenroad (8:55.49) was just outside the top-10 at 11th and Harless placed 16th (9:11.24).

Toni Moore recorded a pair of second-place finishes. She crossed behind Boxall in the 3,000-meter run (10:21.54) and posted a time of 5:13.11 in the mile run. Mikayla Beeler completed the 800-meter run in 2:22.94 for seventh.

Amber Littlejohn, Kristen Blevins and Jaila Whitaker competed in the 200-meter dash. Littlejohn was ninth (25.29), Blevins finished 20th (26.04) and Whitaker was 37th (26.56).

Faith Lewis had a throw of 11.36 meters to finish 17th in the shot put. Mattie Thomas was 26th with a throw of 10.42 meters.

Derek Flatford, Teagan Lenox and Jacob Hatcher competed in two events each. Flatford was 40th (7.36) in the 60-meter dash and finished ninth with a long jump of 6.37 meters. Lenox’s long jump of 5.66 meters put him in 21st. He added a 13th-place finish (2:02.21) in the 800-meter run. Jacob Hatcher was just ahead of Lenox in 10th (2:00.84) in the 800 and finished seventh (4:26.79) in the mile. Andrew Hendry completed the mile in 4:30.56 for eighth.

The Flames and Lady Flames return to action on Jan. 19 at the Emory CrossPlex Invitational. The meet will once again be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
