Margaret Claudine Coker Lawson


Margaret Claudine Coker Lawson, more familiarly known as "Red" or "Maw", left this earth after 98½ years on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; and by her parents, Jess and Ida Coker.

She is survived by children: Judy and Cephas Geren, Jerrie and Gregg Best, and John and Kim Lawson; greatly-loved and loving grandchildren include, Shane (Jennifer) Geren, Aimee Geren, Garth (Sharon) Best, Meg Best, Jeremy (Sally) Lawson, and Erick (Jenny) Lawson; even more loved great-grandchildren, Lily and Piper Lawson, and Grant and Beau Best.

“Red” worked for over 20 years for the M.C. Headrick Grocery Stores and attended New Friendship Baptist Church for more than 70 years. “Maw” loved babies, traveling, and baking — just ask the great-grands about her chocolate chip cookies.

Friends will be received on Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m..

The funeral will be on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. with burial afterward at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Shane Geren, Jeremy Lawson, Garth Best, Erick Lawson, Mike Ownbey, Gary Lawson, Grant Best, and Beau Best.

The family requests that memorials be made to New Friendship Baptist Church.

Many thanks are given for the support and service of many church and family friends for their offerings of food and concern over the past weeks and to Chattanooga Hospice.
