Lee’s Wind Ensemble to Perform Spring Concert

The Lee University Wind Ensemble will close out its spring concert series with a performance on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The evening will be conducted by Dr. David R. Holsinger and will feature music by Gaspar Cassado, Alfred Reed, Jess Langston Turner, Charles Wiley, and Luigi Zaninelli, along with music from the conductor’s favorite march composer, John Phillip Sousa.

Holsinger’s own “To Tame the Perilous Skies” will be performed. The piece was commissioned by the 564th Tactical Air Command Band as a tribute of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the first totally aerial campaign of the Second World War.

The composer sought to depict the battle in all aspects, including the preparation, battle, and the triumphant return.

The concert will also include a time to recognize senior members of the group that will graduate in May or July.

The Lee Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion. It is a non-traveling group that performs for special concerts on Lee’s campus.

The personnel of this auditioned ensemble contains not only music majors, but also a variety of majors across Lee’s campus. Since the ensemble’s founding 18 years ago, it continues to represent a cross-section of the best instrumental musicians on campus.

The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
